Panel Discussion: Would the Asian Pacific Region Benefit from Harmonisation of Copyright Laws Throughout the Region?
The APCA panel discussion was held on 20 May 2015 in conjunction with the Centre for Accounting Governance and Taxation Research at Victoria University. The topic of the panel discussion was drawn from similar discussions occurring in the European Union and provided a challenging area for the four members of the panel- each of whom chose to address different aspects of potential harmonisation.
The Panel was chaired by Associate Professor Susan Corbett, General Secretary of APCA, and panelists were Susy Frankel, Kate Duckworth, Lida Ayoubi and Jonathan Barrett.
Professor Susy Frankel, Victoria University and Chair of the Copyright Tribunal, spoke on the Trans Pacific Partnership negotiations.
Kate Duckworth, a partner at Catalyst Intellectual Property, Wellington, spoke about transaction and enforcement measures and also online media.
Lida Ayoubi, who has been recently awarded a PhD in Law from Victoria University, spoke on copyright and access to books for the visually impaired.
Dr Jonathan Barrett, a Senior Lecturer in the School of Accounting and Commercial Law at Victoria University, spoke on droit de suite.
